Event Description

Wednesday, October 14th: FREE
7PM - 9PM -- Olympia, WA

Kelvin Cochran served as a firefighter for 34 years. In 2009, President Obama appointed Kelvin Cochran to serve as U.S. Fire Administrator where he was charged with overseeing, coordinating, and directing national efforts to prevent fires and improve fire response.   Mr. Cochran would later return to the City of Atlanta to serve as Fire Chief where he was named Fire Chief of the Year in 2012.

But firefighting wasn’t his only passion.  A committed Christian and elder in his church, Mr. Cochran is also passionate about men discovering their purpose.  That passion inspired Chief Cochran to write the book Who Told You That You Were Naked? in which he discussed biblical manhood and affirmed God’s design for sexuality.

Those beliefs led Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to fire Mr. Cochran.  The mayor explained that Mr. Cochran’s faith meant he could not be trusted to manage “a large, diverse workforce.”  He has never been accused of discrimination or mistreatment of any of his employees.

Mr. Cochran is fighting back.  But beyond that, he has a powerful story to tell and this October, he will be in Washington State telling that story.

The Family Policy Institute of Washington is pleased to bring Chief Cochran to Washington.  He will be sharing about The Blessings of Suffering: Real Life Application in Real Time on October 14th in Olympia.

His story is concerning, but his attitude will inspire you.  This will be an evening that will challenge and inspire you be courageous in the face of an increasingly hostile culture and hopeful in the knowledge that God is always in control.

You will also have the chance to be connected to efforts in Washington State to ensure that stories like Chief Cochran’s are an unfortunate part of our history and not an expected part of our future.
